A couple saves up for 25 years to restore a storied estate. When they bought the property, the original Italianate mansion had been replaced by a ’50s ranch, and the century-old formal gardens designed by the Olmsted Brothers (whose work has been celebrated by the Smithsonian) were in a state of disrepair.
